The Liberty Index
The Liberty Index rates members of Congress on their official roll call votes during each session of the House and Senate. For each Chamber, twenty votes on economic issues and twenty votes on personal liberty are selected to rank members for their support of individual liberties.

Rather than the traditional left-right political spectrum, the two types of votes are plotted on a two-dimensional LiberGraph, to indicate support for both personal and economic liberties. The resulting LiberPlot more accurately shows the political position of each member in both categories. Click the image for more details.
Each member of Congress has two percentage scores and a consolidated score, which indicates their standing in the totalitarian to libertarian axis (lower left to upper right). For convenience, different positions on the LiberGraph have been labeled with general political classifications. The main Index Lookup allows you to find scores of your Representative or Senator, or get complete member listings for each year, chamber, state, or classification.

Start browsing with the yearly Overview written by Professor Clifford F. Thies, who has compiled every Liberty Index for the past 14 years. The summary includes top scores and highlights of important votes. Thies is a Professor of Economics and Finance at Shenandoah University (Virginia) and a past Chairman of the Republican Liberty Caucus.
